Bass Island Line (BIL) offers a weekly direct service between the Port of Devonport and Port of Grassy using vessel John Duigan. BIL also offers a seamless transhipment service for King Island cargo to the Port of Melbourne, Victoria.
As a seamless transhipping service, BIL organises all logistics for customers transporting goods between King Island and Victoria, ensuring an easy solution for its customers. This seamless service also ensures customers only receive one invoice.
BIL is responsive to business and community needs and we are committed to providing a safe and dedicated shipping service for the King Island community.
The BIL shipping service caters for containerised, bulk and vehicular cargo, including trucks, trailers, motor vehicles, boats and caravans using a roll-on-roll-off (RORO) service.
We move a wide range of freight onto and off King Island including fertiliser, livestock, fuel, Gas ISO’s, refrigerated dairy products, groceries, stockfeed, household goods, construction materials, agricultural and mining equipment, kelp and motor vehicles.
BIL also has the ability to handle project cargoes.
We encourage customers to get in touch to discuss their freight needs by emailing info@bassislandline.com.au or calling 1300 038 228
Fertiliser and livestock are the largest King Island imports and exports for the BIL shipping service.
We work closely with our customers to meet fertiliser demand, including during the peak season (autumn and spring). We are also committed to meeting the needs of our livestock customers.
BIL transports a range of vehicles to and from King Island. We provide protected stow in containers for vehicles on John Duigan between the ports of Grassy and Devonport to limit exposure to salt spray and provide protection from the elements during crossings.
Upon arrival at Devonport, customer’s cars will be unpacked and transferred to the SeaRoad terminal. This is included within the transhipment rate, as part of a seamless service. This applies in both directions.
Please contact your local Bass Island Line agent to confirm shipping costs and applicable rebates that may be available on transporting vehicles.
Customers are encouraged to make their own arrangements for containers to carry their cargo. BIL is not a total freight solution and is unable to provide shipping containers as part of the service.
