Due to repairs to the John Duigan, following minor hull damage being identified, Bass Island Line has cancelled this week’s scheduled service to King Island.

To support customers and maintain freight flow to the island, Bass Island Line will operate two back-to-back services next week:

  • Depart Devonport Monday 15 December to arrive at Grassy Tuesday 16 December
  • Depart Devonport Wednesday 17 December to arrive at Grassy Thursday 18 December

The John Duigan remains safely alongside in Devonport while repairs and surveyor checks are completed.

Weather conditions later this week and an existing commercial booking at Grassy Wharf limit safe opportunities for an earlier arrival.

TasPorts’ Chief Executive Officer, Anthony Donald said despite the delay, the additional service was important to keep freight moving.

“We recognise how essential this link is for the island. Running two services next week ensures we can move freight efficiently while repairs are completed safely,” Mr Donald said.

Mr Donald thanked customers for their cooperation and acknowledged the ongoing work of Bass Island Line’s staff and agents.

“We appreciate the collaboration and support shown by our customers as we work through this issue. I also want to recognise the significant efforts of the Bass Island Line team, who have responded quickly to adjust schedules, support customers and progress the repairs,” he said.

Bass Island Line is working with freight agents to rebook all affected cargo.
