The Investigator II is a highly-effective interim vessel for the Bass Island Line (BIL) service. It was brought into service at the start of BIL operation in April 2017.
The Investigator II was chosen as the best available option at short notice while a more suitable vessel was secured.
TasPorts successfully set up BIL at the request of State Government following the withdrawal of the previous service provider and limited private sector commercial interest in operating the service.
BIL was established in a short period of time to support the King Island community.
The Investigator II is a 53 meter landing craft with a draft of 2.8 meters. It has a deck area of 405m2 and a capacity of 66 TEUs.
