Update 43

Festival of King Island

Last weekend, BIL and TasPorts were proud sponsors of the annual Festival of King Island (FOKI).

Now in it’s 5th year, the Festival of King Island is a musical and cultural event that takes place on the last weekend of January.

As the event continues to grow each year, BIL and TasPort were pleased to be able to support to this exciting event.

We hope everyone had a great time over this special long weekend event.

Freight to date

Since commencing operation on 7 April, 2017 BIL has moved 49,510 tonnes of freight into and off King Island. This equates to over 226 sailings in total.

Cargo for these sailings include fertiliser, livestock, fuel, groceries, stockfeed, and household goods, construction materials, agricultural equipment, motor vehicles and TasWater’s King Island pipeline project cargo and house units.

The Spring season has seen 111 TEU fertiliser move between King Island to mainland Tasmania.

Wild weather cancellation

Wild weather in northern Tasmania has resulted in the cancellation of one Livestock sailing earlier this week.

Due to strong winds and high seas, the BIL held service for 48 hours from 7:15pm on Monday evening.

Rough weather safety is paramount for BIL therefore all precautions were taken to ensure the safety of staff, livestock, and cargo.

BIL will have three livestock sailings scheduled next week, with capacity to complete any extra requirements as necessary.

The schedule

The next three sailings are as follows:

  • Saturday 3 February: General sailing – Depart Devonport30pm
  • Sunday 4 February: General sailing- Depart Grassy 1:30pm
  • Sunday 5 January: General sailing– Depart Devonport 1:30pm
