Update 38

Merry Christmas from BIL

Bass Island Line (BIL) would like to wish all of our customers and stakeholders a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

BIL has worked hard to provide a safe and reliable shipping service for the King Island community since we started operating in April this year. We would like to offer a sincere thank you to all of our customers for your business over the past eight months and we look forward to meeting your freight needs during the year ahead.

Our service would not have been possible without the fantastic efforts of Masters Andrew and Justin and their crews; the stevedores in Devonport, Stanley and Grassy; our shipping agents – Tasmanian Cargo Services and Jim McKenzie Agencies; and a great many TasPorts and BIL staff. Thank you for all your commitment and hard work this year.

2017 snapshot

BIL is proud of its record for the King Island community. Since we started on 7 April 2017 we have done the following:

192 sailings: 103 general and 89 livestock sailings

  • 19,804 tonnes of general cargo
  • 8856 tonnes of fertiliser
  • 15,362 tonnes of livestock
  • 14,498 head of cattle moved from King Island to Tasmania.

We now look forward to 2018 and the arrival of our new vessel!

Safey first

Safety remains our number one concern at BIL. Due to continuing strong winds and high seas forecast for Northwest Tasmania and Southern King Island on Wednesday 19 December and Thursday 20 December, the Investigator II Master advised conditions were unsuitable for livestock crossings.  V193N & V194S were therefore rescheduled as general sailings. Livestock cargo will be moved for our customers on the next available crossing.

The R&D depot will be closed 25, 26 December 2017 and on 1 January 2018. The BIL Christmas Schedule can be found on the BIL website. Visit bassislandline.com.au and click on the ‘Schedule’ button.
