King Island visit
Two senior representatives of TasPorts headed to King Island this week to talk with members of the community following the recent announcement of the new Bass Island Line (BIL) vessel.
Steven Clark, Executive General Manager Customer and Commercial, and Kevin Moore, General Manager Customer Management, met 50 people in 15 meetings over two days on the island.
“During out visit we listened to a lot of people about their service requirements from the new vessel,” Steve said.
“We answered a variety of questions including on scheduling, port calls, vehicle and machinery protection, fuel, reefer points and additional space.”
“It seems the attitude across the island to the new ship is largely positive.”
“Kevin and I have committed to return to the island in early December, and again in January before the vessel is introduced.”
Kevin said everyone at BIL and TasPorts was still striving for continual performance improvement by the shipping service.
“We want the community to know that the BIL vessel is their vessel – both the Investigator II and the new ship are dedicated to meeting King Island’s needs.”
The current season
BIL added an additional sailing to assist with livestock movements off King Island this week.
BIL is pleased to report that it is meeting all known demands for the current Spring season. Customers are invited to get in touch to discuss their needs.

The next three sailings are as follows:
- Saturday 4 November: General cargo – Depart Devonport 1pm.
- Sunday 5 November: General cargo – Depart Grassy 1.30pm
- Monday 6 November: combined general cargo and livestock – Depart Stanley 11pm
