Bass Island Line (BIL) this week achieved another milestone: the shipping service has now delivered more than 20,000 tonnes of freight to King Island.
Since it started operating on 7 April 2017, BIL has moved 20,786 tonnes of freight into and off King Island including fertiliser, livestock, fuel, groceries, stockfeed, household goods, construction materials, agricultural equipment and motor vehicles.
To date, 93 voyages have been completed by BIL including 38 livestock sailings.
BIL has remained responsive to business and community needs about the King Island shipping service. Using the Investigator II, BIL has consistently moved all booked freight from mainland Tasmania to and from King Island.
TasPorts has consistently maintained that the Investigator II was not optimal for the trade and was deployed due to its availability and suitability while a more suitable vessel was secured. TasPorts is continuing to search for that more suitable replacement vessel.
The upcoming season
BIL encourages all its customers to get in touch to discuss future requirements, especially during the upcoming spring season when demand is likely to rise following the winter period. As part of its commitment to responsible forward planning, BIL is planning meetings with key stakeholders to discuss theirs needs around fertiliser shipments during the spring season.
To discuss future bookings or to make current booking please call BIL on 1300 038 228.
